Job description

An excellent and exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Senior Health and Safety Advisor to join a fast paced and agile DIO’s Regional Health and Safety team as their Legionella Technical lead.

The team provides the intelligent customer capability for Health and Safety within DIO, through our proactive and engaging approach to assurance and performance; we seek to monitor and develop DIO policy and standards to meet H&S legislation, codes of practice and MOD policies. The right candidate will support the development of an embedded Health and Safety focused culture across the Organisation and promote excellent safety behaviours.

They will be a specialist in Health and Safety legislation and standards to assist with compliance and continuous improvement of DIO through the creation of innovative ways to measure Health and Safety performance, so they are accurately monitored. This role is to be the organisations lead on legionella.

Person specification

• Working in collaboration with Regional Delivery and our Maintenance Management contractors in the implementation of standards and procedures crucial to ensuring compliance with current applicable legislation and our internal policies.

• MOD Technical Authority lead for Legionella Health and Safety policy, guidance, and processes.

• Working in collaboration with Regional Delivery and our Maintenance Management contractors in the implementation of standards and procedures crucial to ensuring compliance with current applicable legislation and our internal policies.

• MOD Technical Authority lead for Legionella Health and Safety policy, guidance, and processes.

• Coaching and mentoring project teams and supervisors in behavioural safety and intervention techniques in response to poor safety practices or unsafe acts encountered on site.

• Actively promoting close call reporting across operation activities and projects, encouraging and mentoring site teams in use of the electronic Incident reporting systems, proving root cause analysis.

• Providing professional advice and guidance and mentorship to project management, supervisors, workforce and contractors as the subject matter expert on Legionella.

• Undertaking site safety tours and inspections

• Proactively engaging with DIO workforce to deliver H&S training and up skill the respective teams.

• Developing policy and procedures through engagement with the wider subject matter specialists within DIO

• Undertake (based on risk) deep drive assurance reviews within the organisation to establish H&S compliance with the Legionella regulations.

• Provide H&S support to the contracts function through undertaking Pre-qualification questions (PQQ) reviews, tender evaluations.

• Adopting DIO’s values and using these to improve performance

Desirable Experience and Skills 

Membership of a Health and Safety Institution

Licences

Must hold a Full UK Driving Licence – Requirement to travel to remote sites which are not easily accessible by public transport

Qualifications

MUST HOLD NEBOSH Diploma in HEALTH AND SAFETY or equivalent. Must hold a certificate of competence in legionella from BOHS.

Working Pattern

We want to offer opportunities to all who are successful at interview for our roles, but this isn’t always possible, so we do hold candidates on an active reserve list for 12 months. It is also possible that we may offer similar lower graded role/s to reserve candidates or, if no reserves are appointed, candidates that meet the lower grade criteria in merit order.
